After reading all the replies to the main post, Ellen your seems to have the best grasp on what should be accomplished at this conference. I am a self proclaimed abstractor that has ties to the real estate business thru my mother who owned her own real estate business for 30 years, thru my own personal surveying experience as a crew chief on a survey party for twelve years, and just getting into the abstracting for the past year, six months as an in-house abstractor and six months as an independant. I was fascinated by the whole process, it was like working a puzzle without knowing what the pieces looked like, and only a few pieces to begin with. I was very disappointed with losing the job at my first company, I worked with some fun people and we all got along really well on my shift. I was even more disappointed to find out that when I looked for ways to improve my abstracting skills and knowledge. All I found was a rip off online abstracting course that I completed in one and one half hours and paid fifty dollars or more to take and told me very little. I am sorry to say that I will not be able to attend this conference, although I must commend Ellen on having the right thoughts in place in regards to this organization and what topics should be discussed. What will this organization have as its foundation? What will set it apart from other similar organizations? I do not feel that this organization should be here to settle price wars and squabbles dealing with back stabbing and price cuts, thats just business. I do not have the experience as a pure abstractor, but I do know that I would rather be known as belonging to an association that holds high standards for quality work at a fair price and the client having all confidence in that member to provide accurate ontime orders, because they know by hiring someone from this organization that they have been certified and tested with the proper training and courses offered by this organization or qualified second party in order to maintain high standards in this profession.
To make the future you must place the stepping stones leading to it first.
Thank you for time and consideration, and create a great future for us with this awesome oppurtunity to do so.
