I just read the article, what is unfortunate is that there does not seem to be any effort being made to provide the other side of the story to the public in major forums. I have not seen any articles in the WSJ or heard of industry advocates on Fox Business News or CNN defending the necessity of this industry.  While there are issues in the title industry if the government steps in and "drops the hammer" I think it may make the issues worse as competent people will continue to decide to change careers, creating a vicious downward cycle of declining service and quality that can only further damage the real estate industry.  Title searching and the title insurance is an absolute necessity to maintain the integrity of real property ownership in America and if nothing else is taken into consideration title companies keep the cost of property transfers down. Nothing against attorneys, they have a lot more in school loans and knowledge of the intricacies of law giving them the right to charge more, but in my experience real estate attorneys fees are always much higher than title company fees. I have only recently gotten back into the industry as an independent searcher so I may be out of touch. Please correct me if I am wrong.
