California, a State which loves to regulate each and every profession with a different government agency (barbers and hair stylists are regulated by two different agencies. what a crock.), evidently does not regulate building inspectors. Certainly government staff like assessors and firemen conducting their various legal reviews of lots or buildings are regulated as to their duties, but private building inspectors are not. Related things like private surveyors, private appraiser, and real estate agent are certainly regulated as well, but not this one field of building inspectors, and I can't figure out why; very unusual.
Most other States do have building inspector regulations for those providing such services privately.
Has anyone consdered doing building inspection services in a State where, like Calif., this is an unregulated service? How do you price and what industry standards do you subscribe to in doing so? I've long considered offering this service, but have never spent enough time researching, reviewing, and considering it to uncover a good market entry point and the specific services that are in demand for it.
