My husband used to be a traveling notary. He would charge 75 - 300 depending on the County. He would start with home base county and surrounding touching counties for 75. As the location moves out around the state he would increase the fee accordingly. Another guy I used a lot was more expensive but extremely good and worth every penny. He would charge $85.00 for the base county and go up to 450.00 for say Ashtabula county, which is the furthest county away I think. Then he would tac on 25.00 for after 7 p.m. or 50 if after 8 p.m.. If there was a first and second it was another 50. And that was just for refinances. He would add another 50 for purchase, land contract, construction etc. Weekend pricing is all together different - depends on how much your Saturday is worth. Oh, and don't forget the "travel fee" for when you get there and it doesn't close. Can't tell you how many times that has happened. It is not your job to "resell" the deal but my husband and the other guy were ex-loan officers and extremely knowledgable so it helped and more often that not the docs came back signed. There are occassions when you just can't get it signed tho and title agencies really don't want to pay you for your travels in those cases.
Definately check around your area. Traveling Notaries are not in big demand these days due to the lack of volume. I know a bunch of title companies around my area will not use one anymore due to the liability or something silly like that. I never worried about that because I knew my two personally and trusted them more than some co-workers.
Notary Rotary is a good website and the National Notary Association may be able to help get your name out there.
