Sam I have to say I am in complete disagreement with you. My clients are professionals who expect me to act in a professional manner as well. Demanding payment at the time a title is ordered is ridiculous. Why would they pay me before I even do the work and not for anything, how much would I charge before even seeing what the title looks like. And what about the titles that get cancelled before I start them. Refunding title fees is a pain. As for losing money to a deadbeat client, I just don't let the invoicing get any further than $200 or so. I firmly believe that treating new clients like potential deadbeats and/or enemies just threatens what could become a great working relationship. I'm not going to say that it's all been roses for the last 35 years & I certainly have had clients that I've had to dun for payment, but I just can't for the life of me figure out why I would ever want to be sending an invoice for services rendered before I actually rendered the services.
