I think historians might think that FDR was 10 times more socialistic than Obama. This right wing fantasy that Obama is a socialist is just silly. This idea that we should just dump Fannie and Freddie without a replacement is such a great idea. That way the housing industry will make a small comeback in about 10 years.
Obama a socialist? But we have a healthcare bill with no public option? Obama saved our auto industry which just posted it's first profits in 6 years and hired 58,000 Americans. How dare he.
I guess he's a socialist because he is trying to save Medicare and Social Security?
The stimulus? Saved millions of jobs but was too small and we need another but one party just won't allow the government to do that because all of a sudden the deficit is going to eat our children. But continuing tax cuts for the rich is just dandy. Raise taxes 3 percent on the top 5 percent and the world will end.
The financial regulation bill? Again too timid but certainly better than letting Wall Street just do this bubble market again and make millions.
The Bank Bailout? Oh wait that was Bush the communist's plan...
The "Hope and Change Thing"? Ending combat in the stupidest war in our history. Expanding Childrens's healthcare with a cigarette tax. Limiting access by lobbyists to the White House (remember Abramoff?). Phased out F-22. Stem cell research. Housing recovery act (we all got work from this!). Closing offshore tax havens. Increased pay for our military. Improved veterans benefits. Increased college loans and took obscene profits away from banks and gave the savings to students. Stopped government censorship of scientific documents. Cut salaries of senior White House aides, capped at 100k. Returned money earmarked for refurbishment of White House offices and living quarters and paid for redecoration of living quarters out of his own pocket. There are hundreds more.
I'm hoping for more change. He's not perfect, give him another year...
