I was recently contacted by Altisource and I too, was concerned about the personal information they requested...(I was not made aware of the requirement for a card or a fee of $7.5 per order)..they did ask for my Drivers License and they insisted on getting a certificate from my E & O carrier listing them as 'certificate holder'....I was told this would keep them informed should I let my E & O coverage get cancelled. I was also told that they are "not currently in the title search industry and are adding it to their portfolio, and that they are a multi-national company".....I declined the inquiry and then received a phone call from the one who sent me the email....he wanted to convince me that my info would be safe and that I did not have to answer all the personal questions but that the only items needed of great concern were: my Drivers License, a signed W-9, the E & O Certificate naming them as cert. holder, my fee list and county coverage.....until reading the postings, I was about to reconsider and reply to them but I think my first impluse was correct.. think about it, they would have my SS# and my DL#, thus setting me up for the perfect identity theft opportunity!..I am thankful and grateful for the SOT Newsletter which always has a great source of valuable information!
