Scott,
I don't know if the gas fracking is similiar to oil well fracking but the thought of dumping cyanide or arsnic into the ground with no adverse effects just doesn't seem to make much sense to me.
Listen, before I get on my soap box I want to put my disclaimer out there; I'm not a bunny hugging enviornmentalist. That being said, I think we as a human race have raped the land for far too long. Money seems to be our only reasoning for not using renewable energy. Cave men burned wood for energy, now 10s of thousands of years later we are just simply burning a different source. I wouldn't mind seeing geothermal plants coming online with the hundreds of left-over steam power plants of WWII warships. I wouldn't mind seeing more solar panels ontop of everyone's houses, regardless of how unsightly they may be. I wouldn't mind laws mandating all car be electric. I just think fossil fuels are the lazy mind's energy fix. Kind of like a junkie. Once you get that taste you don't know any better.
I know this goies against all my conservative values but I see it more as a common sense ideology than a social thing. It just doesn't make sense to keep pumping crap into the air that we breathe. You don't sh*t where you eat do you? Why pour toxic chemicals into the ground that could, maybe, possibly, in a rare chance reach an aquifer? I rather not take that chance.
