I'll agree with you on increasing fees and "title jockey" does not offend me after 28 years in our business. Kinda funny, as a reference, but others are becoming quite sensitive to your name and bristling at a colloquialism.
Part of the abstractors job is certainly to research, fully and accurately report and follow-up on title matters.
I read and enjoy these discussions because knowledge about how and why things occur make you more powerful and better able to serve your clients. This discussion is an example of random useless information: that is, UNTIL it is relevant to your interests. That could be tommorrow, the next day or the day after. Then it's certainly valuable information that was well worth the time and effort to read and understand.
I agree with you and everyone before that said it's all about the money. Follow the money trail and it leads to interesting knowledge. For us as abstractors, it's also about the money; the money that puts food on our tables and gas in our tanks. We're all just living our lives as honest business people who want to provide for ourselves and our families every day, and we do so by knowing a bit more and serving a bit better with that experience and information.
