I will be sending an email to the Essex North District Registrar of Deeds to complain about the shoddy job done in copying the indices.  Some time ago they went to a paperless Registry format with all the indices & record books, copied & posted online.   The record books, but not the indices, were sent to Essex South ROD.   The problem is that the work on the indices wasn't done correctly, so that in running the name Maureen Rohan, grantor for the years 1963-1970, nothing comes up.  Possibly the name was under a combined spelling, but with what, it's impossible to tell.  At the moment I am looking at a deed from Maureen Rohan recorded in 1963 to Henry H Jacobs.  The only reason I have a copy of that deed is through running the chain back.  Her name, is nowhere to be found in the index. 

It is outrageous that I am going to have to call the Registry to find out just where her name is located in the online indices.  At least in the books, you could page back & forth looking for it.

Sometimes, technology is not such a good thing.   I need to go sharpen up my quill pen!

OK.  I called up there & the fabulous executive assistant, Carol, sorted it out for me.  It was under a combined spelling, but since when they did the scanning, the information was entered incorrectly & misspelled to boot, it was impossible to find.  I did eventually manage to find Ms Rohan's name in the index; but my point is that I shouldn't have to call the executive assistant & hope that she's in her office, to get accurate information.  They really, really  need to rescan those indices. 

I remember when they were doing the job.  The people who were scanning were also making copies of plans, answering the phone & waiting on the counter.  They should have been locked into a back room with no outside distractions to get this job done right.  Now they will have to redo it.  Paying twice for a job that should have been done right the first time - priceless.
