I completely agree with you, and essentially, we have screwed ourselves by allowing our local government entities to post our US land records online to be accessed anywhere, by anyone, at any time in the world.
Yes, it is convenient to us as abstractors, but it should not be legal for that information to be online.
Can you even imagine how much better many of our businesses would be in this country if that were not the case? I realize there are a lot of benefits to online access in many industries, but the US title industry has shot itself in the foot (or in the heart?) with online access of land records.
And I for one do not understand how it can be rationalized that someone in India, or anywhere else for that matter in the world, should be able to look at the deed or mortgage for my property unless they come in to our local courthouse. Homeland Security???? Wow, pathetic.
