Seems like, if you're out of work, and supplementing with abstracting, that you might as well work to expand and diversify the business in lieu of a job. If you're unemployed and need that side money, then getting your name out, posting a blog, adding yourself to a free online directory, and offering a variety of research related services, certainly makes sense. Better in 12 months to have a thriving business and no employer than a $20-per-project albatross and no job. Just sayin'.
