[-] non paying clients-post on SOT? - Nathan Miller/KY (6 replies)

For a long time I was not posted our experiences about non paying clients but then something happend that is changing my mind. I took a new client after searching Source of Title forums and abstractor watchdog and not finding anything of concern. We did several hundred dollars worth of orders and never got paid one penny. i posted this experience on here and then found out others had the same experience with this company. If that other company had posted their experience I would have not lost over $600. Then I realized other abstractors have likely been victoms of non payment when I could have possibly helped avoid it by posting our experience. I personally feel kind of uncomfortable by posting negative information about others in a public place but now I am starting to think about doing it all the time. I haven't decided yet.

On the other side, I have seen several posts on this forum where an abstractror was accusing someone with little facts, misinformation or exagerations and giving a good company a "black eye". I personally have been bothered by posts accusing companies for nonpayment when I know it is a good paying client and most likely the abstractor was at "fault". I could give examples but I don't want to go down the road. Suffice it to say that not every case is black and white and sometimes, yes, sometimes, the client is actually in the right.

I think we can all help weed out bad apples by posting our experiences more often. I just want to suggest that if you do post about non paying clients make sure it is black and white facts. If there is grey, don't post because it could be you are in a dispute and you're partly right and partly wrong and there is no valid reason for other abstractors to pass up the opportunity for a new client. Make sure you are posting about your actual experience and not someone elses. Let's not exagerate or pass on rumors. Don't attack and make us all read overly negative news, as there is enough of that already. Keep it simple, professional and factual so that others can make their own determination based on honest information. These are just my thoughts. I'm curious to hear what you think.
