It is sad... very sad... but it has gotten to the point where I cannot answer my phone. I'm forced to let the calls go to voice mail so I can screen them. I volume of non-business related calls I receive is atrocious.
We get several variety:
- Collection calls for people I have never heard of, despite having had this number for over 15 years!
- Charitable solicitations for special Olympics, FOP projects, handicapped work groups, etc. And they don't just call once... they keep calling back after I have politely explained that I DON'T HAVE ANY MONEY TO GIVE THIS YEAR.
- Utility groups touting deregulation and how they can save me money. I have checked and the amount of my bill that is actually for the gas or electric production is VERY small to begin with. The main charge is distribution that they can't do anything about.
- Insurance salespeople... I keep telling them I'm not in the market for insurance, but they don't give up!
- And, people who want me to invest $50K in oil wells; apparently they think I need a tax write-off. As if I actually have $50K!!!
No matter what approach I take, I cannot get the madness to stop!
