Ahhh.. Friday the 13th. I am not a superstitious person, but really, this has been the day from HELL.
I knew that at some point today I was going to have to pick my son up from the hospital, (he had surgery on his shoulder yesterday) and pick his daughter up from after school care. I am feverishly working on a presentation for a national conference I am speaking at in June and I needed to finish my power point presentation to be delivered to the event coordinater, IT'S DUE TODAY, and my 5 y.o. grandaughter is "graduating" from pre-school tonight.
I expected to pick my son up at around 2pm, which left me with most of the day in which to get the power point done. To make matters that much more interesting, my assistant is out today, so I have been fielding her e-mail and my own via cell phone, as well as rolling the office phones to my cell. Luckily, there were no closings scheduled for today.
In any event, at 11:00 a.m. my son calls and says, "Hey, you can come and get me now". grrr... ok, I'm on my way. My office is smack dab in the middle of Baltimore County, I am from Harford County, he was at John's Hopkins in downtown Baltimore. I don't know my way around downtown Baltimore at all. So, navigation engaged, off I go to Hopkins to get him.
As I am walking out of my office door my daughter calls, her tire has a flat, there's a nail in it and she has the babies with her (5 y.o. and 22 m.o) she is also 6 months pregnant and her husband is out of town on business "can I help her she inquires? "No, I'm sorry, I have to get your brother, but I can talk you through the tire change if you like". So, she starts to cry. Could I feel like a worse Mother at this point? Anyway, she called her father-in-law and he charged to the rescue. The bright spot in the day.
When I finally arrived at Hopkins, after some minor mis-steps and fussing at the nav. system, my son was ready, but lo and behold, we had to wait for the physical therapist to release him as well as for prescriptions to be issued and final discharge papers to be given. Long story short, he left out of Hopkins at 1:45. He sent me to get the car and I though Whoo Hoo! I can get back to the office and get my presentation done. OH, WRONG AGAIN! I lost my car. Now this is not funny, so stop laughing at me.
I wandered around the John's Hopkins campus looking up and down every single side street, I do believe I walked a mile looking for the damn car. As I am walking around in a huff looking for the dang car, the son is calling; he's irrated and in pain, what's taking so much time? I explain the situation, gave him a little lecture and continued the search. FINALLY! I found the car, but, NO it didn't get much better from this point. Now, because I am turned around from wandering all over creation, I can't figure out where the entrance to the patient pick-up is. Oh...... another 15 minutes of treking around the hospital environ, this time in the car.
FINALLY! I find the entrance, get the son, and off we go. The time is now 2:30 p.m. Back to Baltimore County we head, now we need to get his prescriptions filled. Another 45 minutes gobbled up.
So now finally at 3:15 p.m, I return to my office. The chances of this power point presentation getting submitted today are slim and it just ain't gonna happen. I have to leave at 4:45 to get my grandaughter from after school care, take her to dinner, get a small wrist corsage for the 5 y.o. graduate and be at the school for her at 6:30.
I've begged for a 2 day extension on the delivery of the power point. I will do it tomorrow. For today, I'VE HAD ENOUGH
