I proposed an interesting experiment a few weeks ago to highlight the issues of off-shoring of research.
I suggested that a few abstractors pool a bit of money, find a small village in rural India, and copy a few decades of old marriage announcements using digital camera technolgy.
The pdf's would then be sent to PAKISTAN for hosting as public records on the web.
The goal is to highlight how a nation's public records can be duplicated and sent overseas to foreign jurisdictions with little valid interest in the privacy, security, confidentiality, accuracy, community prestige, or professional pride in such matters. In point of fact, by sending even a few such records to traditional enemies in Pakistan, this would serve to highlight for India's people, the many issues of consideration American's have when their public records are "outsourced" in the same manner.
Such a news story could be a drop in a lake or develop into a wave in a pond, depending on how it's reported. Fascinating, eh?
