How do they do searches for so little? The answer of course if they don't do "searches".  They do something, make marks on paper, make some copies, etc.  But they are not doing "searches". And they make mistakes.

Because of these phonies I now have to carry E&O insurance and the rates keep going up because these morons are filing claim after claim before they go out of business.

I went about 30 years without E&O and was never sued. So the business collapses a few years ago and as I'm struggling to survive some of my best clients tell me they can't give me work unless I have E&O.  Talk about getting kicked while you're down...

I've done almost 40,000 searches over 38 years and never had a claim.

When you are forced to cut your prices and raise your expenses the quality of your work is bound to decline. I can't afford to hire employees anymore since my profit is so low.  Of course right now I don't have enough work to hire employees anyway. I'm not sure what I'll do when/if it gets busy since I don't really see how I can turn a profit on an employee who costs more than they bill out.  I guess at that point I'll have to dump some clients or raise my prices and probably lose some clients. When it comes to dumping clients I'm making a list and checking it twice, gonna remember who was naughty and who was nice....
