Good points, as usual, Skymutt, but on balance, I think the industry has doen a pretty fair job of policing itself. As someone with an admittedly vested interest in the well-being of this industry, I’ve been studying this issue for some time as well. I have yet to see any credible evidence of hydraulic fracturing causing contamination of a water supply. Most of the accidents that I’ve read about involve sloppy industrial hygiene on the part of the gas company. While I agree that companies should be held accountable whenever they screw up, the fracking in and of itself is not to blame.
