As you may or may not know not only am I a licensed title agent in Maryland but I am also a licensed real estate agent (not really active in this area) . As such, I am made to do continuing education for both licenses. As it turns out I have a continuing ed class this month for my real estate license and I just got the summary of the course outline. These summaries are broken out by time allocated to each phase of the course. One of the courses I have to take is Title Closing and Settlement, the time allocated for the entire course is 1.5 hours. BUT, the breakdown is as follows:
HUD REVIEW 25 minutes
TITLE INSURANCE basic: 15 minutes
Basic v. Enhanced policies 15 minutes
Ground rents( a Maryland specific issues) 25 minutes
Is it any wonder realtors don't have a clue as to what we do? If this is the sum total of their education relating to title insurance they cannot possibly be expected to share any knowledge with the consumer as to what goes into the production of the policy, the back end work, the entire process related to closing, etc. We need to start education our realtors about our worth so they can share that information with their clients.
