I read an interesting article recently concerning the title by which our presidents are known. It seems that in the early days of the Republic question arose as to how we address our head of state. It was the age of kings and despots, and exalted titles were the style. George Washington apparently wanted to be addressed as "His Mightiness". Thankfully they adopted John Adams' recommendation of :"Mr. President."
