When I started 20 years ago a commercial search started at $250!  It's a shame we are unable to charge what we now deserve to compensate for inflation. We have found over the years, those that charge such a ridiculous low price or those that expect us to do a search for the same, don't have the experience nor the understanding that they claim to have in this industry. Many of my clients that have a complete understanding of all side of the biz, when they see an abstractors fee's that are abnormally low along with "wow" turnaround time raises a red flag. If they don't understand something they want an abstractor that has the experience to help them understand and work through it.  They can't afford a bad reputation, repeated call from their underwriter stating another abstract mistake, nor an insurance claim.  There are some that have no idea how much money they could actually make if they don't give in to cheap outsourcing and such. Unfortunately we need to all be on the same page to make it happen and we are not. I would love to see regulation, etc that protects abstractors and weeds out outsourcing and the like.  I want to see this industry boom again, and I want to be fairly compensated for my years of hard work.
