I've been too busy this afternoon to follow the, er,  ---- storm I created with my simple question!  (But I have made some new friends and new contacts, which is always great.) 

 That $10 client you just told us about?  They did the same thing with me!  I don't even remember who they were, but it's the same scenario (and I had the same reaction).

And yes, you are correct.  the client wants me to do a 1 owner search AND assume that I can tell them correctly which mortgage has senior position (which I could do, but really am uncomfortable assuming that responsibility)....but it's just a doc retrieval, right?  I haven't heard back from them since this morning.  Of course, it IS about 7 a.m. where they are so I may yet get more arguments.

My own funny story for the night.  Client asked me today to give a quote on a NATIONAL BATTLEFIELD.  No, I'm not kidding.  National.  As in United States monument.  Battlefield.  As in Civil War.  I explained (very nicely, actually, and without too much laughter on my part) that there won't be any documents to find.  Maybe not even back to Patent!  What are the expecting?  A MORTGAGE?  A tax lien?  Wow.....
