You cannot close a file unless you have a NC attorney certificate. Everyone doing business here has relationships to serve this purpose. One company may use you for search and use someone else for attorney cert but the next client may need them both from you. In SC, attorney must sign off on search, settlement, disbursements and is required to close. Again, most companies get a deal from the attorney but others may require a search. A search only in both states will require an attorney certificate the question is will they agree to certify your work. Some may others may not. It is not like WV were if you search, you personally broke the law and could be sued for the unlawful practice of law without a certification in your file to protect you from claims. I hope this explains for you.
