I am sorry that I am getting into this late.  I have been a member of NALTEA since the beginning June of 2004.  I have been on the Board, served as President & Treasurer & am currently serving another term as President .

I would like to clarify a couple of misconceptions.

Most of NALTEA membership is made up of independent abstractors and small independent abstracting companies that have abstractors that might cover several counties.  Some only search residential properties.  Others search commercial properties.  We have some members that offer title insurance, some Oil & Gas searchers, some that do environmental searches, tax searches, easement & right of way searches.  Our organization is open to any and all searcher/abstractors that search land records.

We currently have 3 membership categories

Corporate/Independent open to all business entities which derive more than 70% of gross annual revenue and engage in land title researching, abstracting, examining, reporting or retrieval of land records.

Individual open to all individual persons in the profession of land title researching etc etc

Associate open to business entities or persons not other wise eligible for Corporate membership

We do in fact have a Certification for Commercial searchers.  Our NMA or NALTEA Master Abstractor Certification requires passing with a 90% of a 100 question test, , Submit a full Commercial search for review and a letter of recommendation from a client stating they feel the person is competent to do any residential or commercial search requested. And have 8 years experience in the industry.

Our annual conferences  have a varity of speakers including Attorneys, Vendor Managers, County Recorders, Title Agents, E & O insurers, Surveyors, Mapping Companies, and Individual Abstractors,  discussing issues that effect any and all aspects of the industry.  .

If there is some issue or aspect that any would like NA:TEA to address I invite you to send me an email president@naltea.org or info@naltea.org or even better join our organization, join a committee, attend a conference.  Bring your ideas with you.

Wanda Steudel

President, NALTEA
