The Eyes of the World are On West Texas
In a recent article from the USGS called the Wolfcamp site in the Permian Basin as "the largest estimate of contiguous oil ever assessed in the United States." They estimate 20 billion barrels of oil at this one site.
While one source reported a total of 644 land based oil rigs were actively drilling nationwide, nearly half (312) were located in Texas. Two hundred and thirteen of the 312 were drilling in the Permian Basin. In other words over 33% of all active land based rigs in the country is drilling in Permian Basin area of West Texas.
