San Mateo county recently started passport-application services at the Recorders Office.
while State agency services like SOS notary registration and such are understandably handled thru county offices & federal law compels some local filings (i.e. Envir. Impact Reports & Superfund Disclosure), it seems less often that i see locally-paid employees directed to perform federal work without federal pay, benefits or prior public hearings.
has anyone else seen feds saving money at local expense? it is now 7 hrs of screaming chaos. getting vital recs, appraisers, prior assessor maps or old grantee books went in the former 3 cases from minutes to hours, and minutes to a week for the latter. decades of stable service killed by feds...go fig.
