Good morning,More bad news I'm afraid :( Both civil and criminal courts in SF have closed. We're told this will last at least 3 weeks. Here's what this means:
Civil: we have access to the partial online index (does not include family, harassment, and certain other types of cases.) As we did at the beginning of the Pandemic, we can conduct name searches now and provide partial results and hold the requests until we are able to access the onsite index again. We are able to request specific copies via mail. We are trying to contact the onsite clerk to see if a dropbox will be made available and/or if they are willing to do name searches for us via written request (but this is doubtful.)
Criminal: we still have access to the official index and phone procedures are in place for us to check DOBs. Ordering files and copies will be delayed (dropbox/mail.)
Marin civil/criminal: no changes. Still closed to walk ins. Name searches via official index are still possible. DOB checks and copies are very delayed
Contra Costa civil/criminal: Closed to walk ins. We can conduct civil name searches via official index still. Dropbox/mail only for copies. Criminal is still using dropbox/mail for name searches and copies.
So far all Recorders/assessors remain unchanged - most have been closed since March (SF, Alameda, Contra Costa.). Marin Recorder is still open but there is a meeting in progress right now and I'm anticipating another closure. I'm in touch with an onsite clerk who was extremely helpful during the first shut down and I'm hopeful, he will be available to us again if they close.
Thank you all for your continued patience and please feel free to contact me with any specific requests/questions. If you have pending SF orders, I will be in contact with you later today.
Let's all take a deep breath and try to manage this roller coaster as best we can.
Dana
