HELLO MY LITTLE LOVIES!
 

It is Kara here, your favorite disgruntled yet advocating AND SWEET (I am nice in person, I swear!) Vendor Manager/Ground Abstractor/Title Examiner.

What a horrific time we are in. Layoffs left and right, inflation, division….

Many wondering how they will support their families….make their mortgage payment….worrying about maybe having to dip into retirement to cover their months bills?

…..all of this happening within our tiny (digital) community…the Abstractors…the Examiners…the actual LEGAL RESEARCHERS….Paralegals…even Notarys (I never leave out our sisters and brothers in arms! WE LOVE YOU TOO!)…..

…..but then I see the offshore thread…..

And while my heart sinks…..

….I told you all….

…this would happen.

….I told you all….how to combat it…..how to bring the industry back to you…how to combat the Offshore companies….How to upgrade your business….and make it competitive.

Remember, this is my throwaway name because I do not want to have my CURRENT HANGING-ON-BY-MY-TEETH job impacted by what I say on Source of Title (in fact, the lot of you actually know me)…but I also say from experience: I too was laid off…in fact, my department AND the department next to mine…so as I sip my Jim Beam and coke (don't judge me, my kids are in bed and fed…I earned it) I know from experience because I learned the hard way like many of you. 

It sickens me: I saw one comment about how one of you has to pay hundreds to ALTA as part of your E&O…..and that some of you are not sure what they even do. That said, I grit my teeth because I know of TONS of Abstractors…Paralegals…examiners…who have been laid off, furloughed, or have closed their business due to the economic impacts of the Real Estate and Title industry…yet ALTA JUST HAD THEIR ALTA CONFERENCE: NO JOKE. I see the pictures of them paling around, sipping cosmopolitan cocktails, their fancy dinners…..Some ALTA Members want to go to ALTA events but cannot…because they have a BUSINESS TO RUN…

I read the OFFSHORE thread, and while I know how you feel, I also do not need to repeat myself, nor will I. Go back and read my other posts… 

And while I said it before, I guess I will say it again: want to take back the industry? Your politicians will most likely not be able to help, nor will they. Most politicians do not give a flying flip about me, you, or any of us.

ALTA's leaders most likely will not either…..

The Offshore Companies (especially with the fake names)…..most CERTAINLY do not give a rats rear about us…heck: I have heard this one a few times: that they couldn't call the court and GET A DOCUMENT BECAUSE THE SEARCHER DIDN'T SPEAK ACTUAL ENGLISH…..Heck, they are even here on SourceofTitle reading this as I speak…if they could!

The only person that can help ground searchers….

are each other, starting with YOU. I am NOT going into Price Fixing, nor will I tell you how to run your business, but if you are complaining about Document Retrievals, then you should charge more for them…triple digits if not dang near close to it.

 

Want actual change? Do you want to actually shake some feathers? 

I dare say: unionize. Set regulations. Set standards. And if you don't like it? Strike. Quit chatting. Quit complaining. Set allegiance. Make mergers. Take action. Get loud. Get weird. DO STUFF.

I have given you all much to chew on and now I am going to bed.
