Sadly, in my opinion, many of these request are fueled by our industry trying to cater to the whims of all without taking into consideration the safety of our employees, and without considering that conducting a closing in a home is just seems unnprofessional.

I can honestly say that over the last 25 years I have done 2 closing in someone's home.  One for my mother in law because she was bedridden and one for a friend who had purchased a second home in another state; in that instance I acted as their "witness /notary"  

I suppose that it could be said that I am somewhat inflexible when it comes to closing in a professional setting during business hours.  But over and over again, my reasoning has proved itself to be sound.  If I need to reach the lender because there is a problem, I won't be able to reach the appropriate person at 8 p.m; if I need to make a change to any of the documents, I won't have the tools available to me in someone's home.   While I do sometimes get push back, once I lay out the reasoning, people do agree with me.   And, more often than not, particularly in a sale transaction, you need to be able to accomodate 2 buyers, 2 seller and 2 realtors and sometimes the loan officer.  My conference room is adequately set up for all those folks to attend closing.
