Anyone care to discuss marketing, website design, search engine optimization etc? - William Case/TN

Page rank? Don't worry about it. - William Case/TN
4/30/2010 8:15:36 AM (5120 views)

An old magician once told me "Young man, it doesn't matter how big your wand is. What matters is how much magic you put into it."

I'm not sure if he was really talking about magic, but I think I got the idea. Sometimes size simply does not matter. In that regard, we often assign too much importance to Google page rank.

If I search the term "title abstractors" you show up in second position right under NALTEA who beats you out with their even more paltry page rank of 2. That's a great place to be for that search term. You and NALTEA may both have paltry page ranks in your view, but you both show up on top for that search term. That's the important thing...you show up. So for the search term "title abstractors" you're making out like gang busters.

But what if I'm searching for "title searchers"? Neither you nor NALTEA show up at all on either the first or second pages of the Google search results. Not good.

According to Google Ad Words keyword search tool, 201,000 people search for "title search" per month vs 40,500 who search for "title abstract". The phrase "title companies" gets the most searches at 368,000.

IDEA #1 - Build more pages for this site that target the search phrases people actually use. If I'm a lender (or whatever) needing some title searches, am I more likely to search for "title searchers"" or "title abstractors"? Do I need a "title search" or a "title abstract"?

How much content would those pages actually need? Damn little in my experience. Try this little test. Search for "knox county tn title searches". As you peruse the results you'll see me all over the place. The two Source of Title hits are actually two of my posts on your site that employ the key phrases "knox county title search" and "knox county title searches". Not an accident. The only result that shows up for anyone actually offering Knox County title searches is, well guess who:

"Knox County Title Searches | David-Case-Attorney.com, Professional ...

Knox County, Tennessee, title searches. ... Searches are available for Knox County from 10/01/1968 - Present. Knox County communities: Cities and Towns ..."

If you follow the link to that page you will see that their is not really that much content. But it is the right content, and just enough, to land that page on the first pages of hits for that Google search. Get the picture? In other words, add more content pages for key search phrases. The content needs to be focused but does not need to be lengthy.

What do you think? I'll give you a second idea in a moment.
