You certainly didn't offend me. In fact I agree with you. I've always thought it wrong to lump any group of people together and make a blanket statement either positive or negative.

I also agree with your French mother in that most people have short memories. Unfortunately, most of the people in France probably have no memories at all of World War II or the sacrifices America made. I think it's a shame that the younger generation, even in America have not been taught what it takes maintain freedom. I wonder how many people under the age of 20 realize the contribution France made in setting America free from the tyranny of Britain? Or feel gratitude that France gave us one of our greatest symbols of freedom -- the Statue of Liberty.

I don't blame the young people of today for their lack of understanding but rather the people of my own generation for our failure to teach the sacrifices of our parents. My geneeration is  responsible for a self-loathing of America that has spread worldwide. In the 60's we called ourselves flower children and said it was all about love. And we turned our backs on love of country our parents held dear.

I can still remember the tingling that passed through my spine the first time my first grade class recited the pledge of allegience. But the schools were different then. They tended to instill pride in America instead of self-loathing multi-culturalism, and hatred of our forefathers that . I'm not surprised when citizens of foreign nations believe the things our schools and movies are teaching our own children.

Having said all that, I want everyone to know that after many conversations with you Jarrod, I know that you are one young person that has a great deal of understanding and pride in this country. I only wish that more in this country and France had your perspective.
