I wasn't blaming NALTEA, just airing some concerns in the industry. Aside from the fact that abstractors spend so much time uncutting each other instead of taking a united front on a true nomial fee that they are actual worth.
I don't care for the snide remarks & the reprimands that have been made by others. I have the right to ask questions or make comments with things that concern me and they don't always have to be in agreement of what is being said.
I spoke to ALTA and their lobbying person, aside from trying to do something myself, but I don't have the funds or resources to do it by myself. This past year, myself and few others abstractors (in the state of CT), tried to get some state statutes changed in regards as to how the town clerks maintain & keep the land records, but we failed due to lack of funds and lobbying power. Now the land records have become less then accurate and at times just a complete mess. I CARE about the title abstracting industry and being a title abstractor.
I would like to see changes made on a nationwide basis, where we were all accepted like the appraisers and paid for our true worth. I think that we are the core of the real estate & mortgage business and yet, we are treated of lesser value. I'm not sure, the big title companies or banks, are looking out to keep us around in business, and from the looks of things neither will the appraisers or signing agents (notary) in the long run.
I love doing title abstracting and have so for many years (always with passion and due diligence). thank you - gail
