Sounds like a fabulous place. I have heard about the old Spanish land grants. I have also heard that Jim Bowie was involved in selling some of these properties, and left Louisiana one jump ahead of the sheriff because some "irregularities" in the deeds to these properties. The law apparently took a dim view of it. He sought refuge in Mexico, and wound up at the Alamo. However, it is often difficult to separate fact from fiction when it comes to many of the frontier heroes. I would like to think better of him.

I have seen photographs of the cemeteries of which you speak. Is it true that the tombs are leased rather than purchased?
