I think its the right thing to do.  Its just a business decision.  If the work is not profitable, you can't do it.  Abstracting is not really a profitable business at all right now.  When you factor in the potential liability, you are just getting by until something like this catches up to you.  It only makes sense to cut out the work with the highest potential for risk.

It would be much better if we could charge fees that were in proportion to the risk, but that just isn't feasible.  There are too many abstractors right now which is keeping costs at a bare minimum.  I imagine that as things slow down there won't be enough work for everyone and some will leave the business.  Maybe then, we can see our fees begin to increase to a more realistic level.
