I had a client a few year ago that said he could get the same work for five bucks less.  I couldn't believe it!  We had no problems for a year and a half.  I told them no, and that because they were a good client at the time (almost 25% of my revenue) that if things did not work out with their new person, that I may not be able to do their work if they returned a few weeks later.  I explained, very nicely that I would put on my suit and tie and try to find a client to replace them.  Luckily, I found 2 new clients in the next 4 weeks.  Those 2 smaller clients roughly equaled the amount of work from the old company.  I figured if the old company would leave me for five bucks, they were not work counting on.  Sure enough, they started sending me work about 6 weeks after our discussion.  I phoned the attorney and politely told him that because we are a small company that we just did not have the time to take his work on.  He did not believe me.  I told he we were able to replace him easily, and that I was suprised how easy it was to find title companies that are not getting fast, reliable service and are willing to pay a bit more for perfect service.  I think I did the right thing.  If I would have gone down five dollars, what would have happened next?  It's best to only keep good clients if possible.  You have to know you can rely on them when things slow down. C.
